Benedetta Isabella Lino was born in Palermo, Sicily. She emigrated to the United States in 1966. She attended Our Lady of The Angels grammar school and Immaculata High School, both schools located in Chicago, Illinois. In 1982 she married the love of her life, Gaetano. They have two children: Laura and Barbara. Barbara was adopted through the DSFS foster care program. In 1983, their daughter Laura, at only 4 months old, suffered a stroke due to a severe adverse reaction to the DPT vaccine which left her severely disabled for the rest of her life. Benedetta's book, Tears of My Angel, tells the story of love, hope, and perseverance in the worst times in Benedetta's and Gaetano's life. Benedetta and Gaetano are their daughter Laura's full-time caregivers.
